It may be Kim Kardashian’s biggest fashion faux pas ever.
The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star and Skims founder is still catching heat for wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the Met Gala in 2022. This time it’s coming from Bob Mackie, the designer who sketched the iconic dress Monroe wore to serenade President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
Mackie recently screened his new documentary, “Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion” at the 92NY, followed by an interview with famed fashion insider Fern Mallis for her Fashion Icons series. When Mallis asked him about Kardashian wearing the gown he sketched for Jean Louis, “he hesitated and asked the audience to respond… if they thought it was ok,” a source told Page Six.
The response was a “resounding loud house of boos” from the crowd, we’re told. “Bob shrugged and said, ‘Wrong is wrong!’.”
This isn’t the first time Mackie, 84, has ripped into Kardashian over her decision to borrow the dress from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!. He previously told Entertainment Weekly, “it was a big mistake,” for the reality star to wear the dress.
“[Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her. Nobody else should be seen in that dress,” he said.
