Prince William serves Christmas lunch at a homeless shelter

Prince William has spread festive cheer by serving Christmas lunch at a homeless shelter in London.

The Prince of Wales donned an apron to volunteer at a facility run by the charity The Passage, which he first visited with his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1993, as the royal ladled carrots and parsnips onto plates and chatted to attendees.

In a video posted to the royal’s Instagram account, he is seen listening to stories from attendees and chatting with other volunteers. The caption reads: “It was great to be back serving Christmas lunch at @passagecharity.

“Thank you Claudette and the wonderful volunteers who gave their time to support the homeless. The selflessness and compassion shown in creating a warm and welcoming space during the holiday season makes a profound difference.”

It comes after it was revealed that William and his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, helped make the dreams of an aspiring teenage photographer come true before she died of cancer aged 17.

Liz Hatton – who died in November after battling a rare and aggressive cancer – had her dream realised when the Prince and Princess of Wales arranged for her to photograph celebrities on the red carpet at the inauguration at Windsor Castle.

Liz’s mother, Victoria Robayna, 43, told The Mirror: “Liz remained independent and loved life right up until the end, which was exactly how she chose to live. We couldn’t have wished for a better outcome for Liz.

“All parents want is for their children’s dreams to come true, and the Prince and Princess of Wales have played a vital role in making that happen.

“Liz’s last two months with us were the happiest we’ve ever seen her, and much of it was due to their kindness – we really can’t thank them enough. “Liz had had a number of opportunities before that day at Windsor Castle, but the meeting really catapulted her into the public eye and made her dream come true.”

Catherine and William were the first to pay their respects to the young woman shortly after her death was announced.

In a personal message shared on Instagram Story, the couple wrote: “We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Liz Hatton.

“It was an honor to meet such a brave and humble young lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with Liz’s parents Vicky and Aaron and her brother Mateo during this unimaginably difficult time. W and C.”
