Prince William may be one of the most famous people in the world as the future King of the UK and the Commonwealth, but the dad-of-three still likes to keep certain family moments private.

While the Prince of Wales, 42, rarely speaks about his late mother Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, he did once reveal one of his favourite family memories.

During his stint on the Apple Fitness + podcast Time to Walk, the prince spoke about how Princess Diana would sing songs in the car to help him and his now estranged brother Prince Harry be less anxious about returning to boarding school after long periods of time at home.

As reported by The Mirror, William said that one song by Tina Turner sticks out in his memory as the family would sing it in the car on these journeys.

He said: “When I was younger, Harry and I, we were at boarding school. And my mother used to play all sorts of songs to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to school.”

He continued: “And one of the songs I massively remember and has stuck with me all this time, and I still, to this day, still quite enjoy secretly, is Tina Turner’s ‘The Best’ because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment.

“And my mother, she’d be driving along, singing at the top of her voice. And we’d even get the policeman in the car, he’d be occasionally singing along, as well.

“You’d be singing and listening to the music right the way out into the gates of school, when they dropped you off. And, and that’s when reality kind of sunk in that you really were going back to school because before that, you’re lost in songs.”

The prince also revealed that when he hears that song now, it reminds him of his mother and their fond memories together.

While this song is one way William remembers Diana, he also continues to remember and honour her legacy through his royal work, including his efforts to tackle homelessness.

In his recent documentary Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, the future King spoke about his mother and how she introduced him to homelessness by taking him to The Passage as a young boy, alongside his brother Prince Harry.

The prince also revealed that her actions helped to inspire his Homewards project, which is focused on trying to reduce homelessness across the UK.
