Princess Kate carried out her first royal engagement of the year and made a trip back to the cancer center where she sought treatment.
During the visit, the Princess of Wales mentioned getting “loads of sunshine” while undergoing chemotherapy, which had some royal watchers confused as it contradicts cancer guidelines, as people are advised to avoid the sun.
Kate said: “I really felt like I needed to get the sun. You need loads of water and loads of sunlight.”
ents left some people up in arms, because chemotherapy can make people sensitive to the sun.
One user turned to X and wrote: “What kind of chemotherapy patient gets advised to enjoy sunlight???? Don’t advise people to do things that can be dangerous to them. This is not ok!”
Another X user wrote about her daughter’s experience with cancer treatment: “All the medications that my daughter is on while treating her leukemia say the exact opposite of this.”
A third user wrote: “If you are battling cancer please don’t take [this] advice. ‘Loads of sunlight’ will literally burn you, because most chemo drugs (& antibiotics) cause sun sensitivity.”
While Kate’s comments did not go down well with some, at the same time, they have brought attention to how the sun can be deemed dangerous to chemotherapy patients, so on one level, it may turned out to be helpful and act as a warning.
Kate was at the center to say thank you, visit with patients, and wish everyone well.
