Kate Middleton enjoyed family ski trip to the Alps before announcing her cancer is in remission

Kate Middleton enjoyed a ski trip in the Alps with her family before announcing that her cancer is in remission during an official royal engagement last week, according to a report.

The Princess of Wales, 43, revealed the welcome health update during a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she underwent treatment last year.

In the lead up to the public-facing outing, Princess Catherine flew to the Alps with her husband, Prince William, and their children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, shortly after Christmas, The Mail on Sunday reports.

“It was lovely to see Kate relaxing and enjoying herself,” a staffer at a nearby restaurant told the outlet.

“They looked like a normal English family, and a lot of people didn’t recognize them. It was not the first time we had seen them.”

The source said that the Wales camp had been coming to the restaurant “for years,” adding, “I think they love the area. We often see Kate’s sister Pippa as well.”

While it’s unclear exactly where in the Alps the Wales clan hit the slopes, the family was joined by the princess’ brother, James Middleton, who brought his wife Alizée Thevenet and their one-year-old son Inigo.

The 37-year-old took to Instagram following the trip to share snaps of the snowy vista on January 9.

“We started the New Year with an adventure into the mountains,” he captioned the post, in part. “We were lucky enough to be engulfed by blue skies and cold crisp air.”

Skiing is a known favorite activity among the royals, as both Prince William and his estranged brother Prince Harry were often photographed on the slopes with their father, King Charles, and late mother, Princess Diana.

The Middleton family, for their part, have also enjoyed countless skiing vacations over the years.

Earlier this month, James detailed “distinct memories” of the family trips he and his sisters Kate and Pippa took with their parents, Michael and Carole Middleton.

“Holidays tended to be packing up the car and driving somewhere,” Middleton told The Sunday Times. “My parents, sisters and I would visit different places in the Swiss Alps each summer, such as Les Masses, or we’d go to Avoriaz in France.”

“Dad would find a mountain refuge where we’d have a rather sloppy soup-like meal for tea, but we were so hungry from a day of hiking that it tasted amazing.”

Their winter break came just weeks before the princess announced that her cancer is officially in remission.

“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,” the beloved royal wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of her sitting with a cancer patient at the hospital.

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she continued. “I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”

Middleton also thanked the Royal Marsden Hospital “for looking after me so well during the past year” in her statement.

During the outing, it was announced that Middleton had been appointed the royal patron on the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, joining her husband Prince William.

The title takes after William’s late mother, Princess Diana, who once held the patronage before her untimely death in 1997.

Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis to the world in March 2024, two months after undergoing “major abdominal surgery” at the London Clinic.
