Princess Charlotte may only be nine-years-old, however it is already very clear that the young royal is likely to have a significant impact on the Royal Family in the near future.
As her father Prince William is first-in-line to the throne, with her older Prince George, 11, set to take the crown after, it comes as no surprise that the princess will be a key figure in the future of the monarchy.
While many expect her to eventually hold the title The Princess Royal, which is currently held by King Charles’s sister Princess Anne, 74, there has been some speculation as to whether another royal title could be on the cards for Prince William’s only daughter.
Speaking on The Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential Youtube channel, royal commentator Richard Eden said that Charlotte could take inspiration from Prince Edward, who asked for a royal title that had not been used for years beforehand.
He said: “In fact Prince Edward got a newly created title. So the story goes, he loved the Oscar winning film Shakespeare In Love.”
He continued: “In there, there was a character called the Earl of Wessex and when his mother said ‘what title would you like’, he said ‘yeah, I’d like to be the Earl of Wessex’. So that was created for him. It wasn’t a title that had been used for centuries I think.”
When asked whether Charlotte could one day be titled the Duchess of Edinburgh as a stand-alone, the Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English said: “There is nothing saying she couldn’t, but I think we’d all expect her to be the Princess Royal.”
Despite the fact she is likely to be a full-time senior working royal one day, Charlotte has already expressed desires when it comes to future careers, with the princess reportedly wanted to work as a nurse in healthcare.
The princess, who currently attends Lambrook School with her brothers Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, six, became interested in nursing after being taught about the important work the NHS do.
A Palace source previously told New Idea: “She’s obviously just a little kid but still, Will and Kate swelled with pride.
“She’s such a caring little girl who also knows what she wants, so they wouldn’t be surprised if she does take on nursing as one of her big causes when she’s older.”
The princess is expected to next be seen in public over Easter when the royals attend a church service together.
