You’re breaking up with me because I’m too … funny?
Reese Witherspoon revealed a famous actress ended their friendship after she bombed a speech in the unnamed star’s honor.
“It literally haunts me,” the “Legally Blonde” star told her “You’re Cordially Invited” co-star Will Ferrell during a joint interview with People published Thursday.
“So this friend of mine — who I didn’t really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress — she asked me to give her an award.”
However, Witherspoon, 48, “had never been” to that particular awards ceremony, which she “thought was like a roast.”
“So I got up and I roasted her,” she recalled.
The Oscar winner quickly realized she had misjudged the vibe of the gala.
“The tone was British and elegant and classy,” she explained. “And I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?!’”
Witherspoon burst into laughter even thinking about the experience, which she is “still embarrassed about.”
While she looks back and laughs about the ordeal, her famous friend didn’t find it funny.
“We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore. I think she doesn’t like me anymore,” she said.
“I thought it was so funny, and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. I’m not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh, well.”
Although Witherspoon did not give any more information about the actress in question, she took a few things away from their friendship.
During an interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday, the “Morning Show” star revealed how she has ensured that her children — daughter Ava, 25, and sons Deacon, 21, and Tennessee, 12 — grow up with a good sense of humor.
Witherspoon told Jimmy Fallon that she believes it is important to embarrass her three kids so that they don’t take things as seriously as adults.
