Mike Tindall once revealed a very cheeky nickname for Prince William, and Zara Tindall shared that the reveal landed her husband in “so much trouble” with her royal relative.
Speaking to Rob Burrow, who later passed away in June 2024, on a podcast episode, Mike revealed that William is known as ‘One Pint Willy’ as he is “not the best of drinkers”.
Mike said: “For the Prince of Wales, he is known as One Pint Willy. He is known to me as One Pint Willy because he is not the best of drinkers, coming from a sport where it is built on the social aspect and a couple of beers being sunk quite often. That is one I will definitely give away for the Prince of Wales.”
However, after the revelation, a giggling Zara – who also featured on the episode – warned her husband: “Oh my god. You are in so much trouble.”
Just a few weeks later, William met Rob Burrow at Headingley Stadium in Leeds to present him and his former teammate Kevin Sinfield with their CBEs for their outstanding efforts to raise money and awareness of motor neurone disease.
Bringing up Mike’s reveal, William told Rob: “It was you who got the nicknames out of him – he apologised to me about that.
“When I saw him, I said Mike, when you say you’re not going to mention your nicknames doesn’t mean you mention mine, it’s not fair’. I’m sure it’s quite fun with Mike.”
Equally as cheeky, the Princess of Wales reportedly has a hilarious two-word nickname for her husband – Big Willy. The pair, who have been married for 13 years, met while studying at St Andrews University where William picked up the name – something that didn’t go unnoticed by Kate.
Other members of the Royal Family also go by a host of nicknames. More so honouring her name, Sarah Ferguson is known as ‘Fergie’ and Princess Beatrice is said to be known as ‘Bea Bea’. Kate has previously been heard referring to her youngest son, Prince Louis as ‘Lou Bug’ – as well as her daughter, Princess Charlotte as ‘Lottie’.
