On April 4, London police announced that Russell Brand, 50 years old, will appear in court for the following crimes: one rape, one indecent assault, one oral rape and two sexual assaults.
The charges relate to four women, who were involved in incidents between 1999 and 2005 in the UK. Police have urged anyone affected to come forward and anyone with information to contact them. Detective Inspector Andy Furphy of the Metropolitan Police, who is leading the investigation, said the victims were receiving support from specially trained officers.
Police began investigating Russell Brand in September 2023 after receiving a number of allegations from a report in The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches . At the time, the British actor denied allegations of rape, assault and emotional abuse against him. In an Instagram video, he insisted he had never had non-consensual sex.
On Friday, after hearing of the charges against him by London police, Russell Brand posted a video on X, once again denying the allegations and claiming that the British government was using the law as a weapon against him. “I was a fool before I came to live in the light of God. I was a drug addict, a sex addict and a fool. But I never raped anyone,” Russell said.
According to The Guardian , Russell Brand moved to the US for a while after the allegations. He settled in Florida with his wife, model Laura Gallacher, and their daughter.
