The Los Angeles Lakers suffered an embarrassing blowout loss at the hands of the lowly Orlando Magic on Friday night, drawing the ire of the team’s frustrated fanbase. The Lakers fell 131-116 despite Orlando owning the worst record in the NBA entering the game.
“We feel very embarrassed,” said longtime Lakers fan James after the game. “This loss is unacceptable. The Magic have what, 5 wins on the season? Just when you think the Lakers are ready to turn a corner, they come out flat and disinterested against a far inferior opponent.”
Indeed, the game marked one of the worst losses in recent memory for the Lakers. They allowed Orlando to shoot over 50% from the field and knock down 17 three-pointers. The Lakers got blitzed right from the opening tip, facing a 20-point deficit after just the first quarter.
“Where is the effort and pride we expect from the purple and gold?” asked season ticket holder Michelle. “The lack of energy tonight was pitiful. No fight, no hustle – nothing. I’m tired of the excuses.”
LeBron James tried to keep the Lakers within striking distance, posting 23 points and 10 rebounds. But little else went right for Los Angeles as Orlando dominated nearly start to finish.
The loss dropped the Lakers back down to .500 at 23-23, jeopardizing their play-in tournament hopes. Fans are growing increasingly fed up with the team’s inconsistent, uninspired play nearly halfway through the season.
“Enough is enough. Major changes need to happen,” said Lakers blogger Daniel. “At this rate, we’ll miss the playoffs entirely. The front office needs to seriously re-evaluate this roster and coaching staff sooner rather than later.”
The team now faces an uphill battle to regain the trust and confidence of Lakers Nation. But more lackluster losses like Friday’s debacle will only amplify calls for widespread overhaul in Los Angeles.
