Prince William and Kate Middleton, who have been married for nearly 14 years, celebrated Valentine’s Day on Friday with a touching new photo of a romantic PDA moment.
William And Kate’s Valentine’s Day Photo
In the image, William, 42, can be seen kissing Kate, 43, on the cheek affectionately. Meanwhile, Kate flashes a broad smile as she receives the kiss from her loving husband.
The photo appears to have been taken in the woods, with Kate and William sitting on a brown picnic blanket. Check out the photo for yourself below.
William And Kate’s Difficult Year
The image came as a welcome surprise to many, as it is rare that William, Kate, and their fellow working royals pack on the PDA. Given what William and Kate have been through over the past year, however, it’s understandable that they want to show their love for one another publicly now more than ever.
Indeed, Kate spent much of 2024 battling an unspecified form of cancer. She revealed her cancer diagnosis to the world in March of last year, explaining that it had been discovered two months before during abdominal surgery. Kate spent months receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatments before finally being declared “cancer free” in September of 2024. Last month, Kate confirmed that her cancer has gone into remission.
“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery,” Kate said in a statement.
William’s New Appreciation For Kate
This cancer battle has likely given William a whole new appreciation for the love of his life. Over the past few months, William has made that clear with more public displays of affection with Kate.
“William must feel so fortunate that Kate has come through this that he wants to tell the world about that love. It shows the intimacy of them sharing that journey together,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward told People Magazine of the couple’s PDAs. “They are able to express themselves in a way they would never have done before.”
William and Kate also aren’t technically breaking any royal rules by packing on the PDA.
“There is no actual etiquette or royal protocol that says the couple must refrain from PDA,” explained Myka Meier, royal etiquette expert and founder and director of Beaumont Etiquette. She added that the couple likely showed restraint in the past because they are “working representatives of the British monarchy.”
William And Kate Are ‘More Open’ Than Ever
A royal insider recently spoke out to say that William and Kate are “more open” now. This source added that the couple “talk about their relationship together.”
“For the princess, family — her husband and children — are more important than anything else,” the insider continued.
William and Kate began dating over twenty years ago when they were both college students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. They married in April of 2011. William and Kate have since gone on to have three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
After everything that William and Kate have been through together over the past year, we can certainly see why they’re more in love than ever. We’d like to wish them both a very happy Valentine’s Day, and many more to come!
