James Van Der Beek selling ‘Varsity Blues’ merch to help pay for ‘expensive’ cancer treatment

James Van Der Beek is feeling the financial strain of funding medical treatments after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

The actor, 47, encouraged his followers via his Instagram Story Friday to order a football jersey from his 1999 hit movie, “Varsity Blues,” that he promised to have signed in time for Christmas.

Van Der Beek appeared in the promotional images wearing the sports shirt, which had the last name of his backup quarterback character, Jonathan “Mox” Moxon, written on it.

He then humbly admitted over the post, “#cancerisexpensive,” with a red heart alongside of it.

Last week, Van Der Beek confessed for the first time that he was dealing with the “financial burden” of cancer alongside an Instagram post about his “merch drop.”

“Excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of #VarsityBlues with a limited edition #4 Moxon jersey—each one personally autographed by me,” he announced on Nov. 22.

“100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own ).”

Earlier this month, the “Dawson’s Creek” alum disclosed he was battling the deadly disease after being forced to go public because an unnamed tabloid had been threatening to release the news.

“I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” he told People at the time. “There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”

Since then Van Der Beek — who shares six kids with wife Kimberly Van Der Beek — has tried to remain in good spirits amid his ongoing health struggles.

He told People for a cover story this month that he was “cautiously optimistic” and that his energy levels were “great,” adding, “I’m in a place of healing.”

“When I’ve been out of the woods completely for what feels like a responsible amount of time, I’ll circle back and let you know,” the “Rules of Attraction” actor concluded.

James announced earlier this month that he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
