Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly fond of a Netflix series that has captivated streamers.
Balancing their royal duties and parenthood to three children – 11 year old Prince George, Princess Charlotte, aged nine, and six year old Prince Louis – the royal couple manages a busy schedule.
Royal commentator Robert Jobson informed Hello! magazine that he anticipates an increase in international engagements for William come 2025, noting: “Last year was an exceptional year, and William stepped up into a solo global-statesman role, but going forward, I think Catherine will spend more time by his side.”
In their downtime, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have shared that they like to unwind by watching television. Recently, it was reported 42 year old William and Kate, also 42, have been enjoying Netflix’s Black Doves, featuring stars such as Keira Knightley, Ben Wishaw, and Sarah Lancashire.
The intense espionage drama has earned rave reviews from audiences and boasts an impressive 94 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, reports the Express. Black Doves centres around Helen Webb played by Knightley who finds her secret identity in jeopardy after her lover is murdered by figures in London’s criminal circles.
A fan expressed enthusiasm online: “I thought Black Doves on Netflix was pretty good and entertaining. Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw are great as a team of clandestine spies and assassins. Absolutely deserves the second season. Can’t wait.”
Another viewer enthused: “Black Doves was fantastic television. So damn good!!” A third chimed in with: “If you love a British political/espionage thriller, Black Doves is a masterpiece. Slick script, superb characters, smashing storyline. Heavy on irony and good old fashioned violence.”
This isn’t the first time that William and Kate have shared their TV preferences. During a visit to the BAFTA offices in central London, where he learned about a bursary awarded in his name, William confessed his fondness for the Jason Bourne series.
Upon meeting Paul Greengrass, director of three out of the six films, William eagerly asked “another Bourne, another Bourne”. The director reportedly responded with laughter and a shake of his head.
Luckily for William, another chapter, rumoured to be titled The Bourne Dilemma, is said to be currently in the works. In addition, the Royal couple has expressed their admiration for the BBC’s popular show Killing Eve, featuring Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh.
During a 2019 visit to a BAFTA exhibition, William reportedly admitted his enjoyment of the series. Show producer Sally Woodward Gentle and costume designer Phoebe de Gaye claimed that the prince “apparently… has watched it all.”
“He [Prince William] said he loved it. He talked about the dark humour of it, and Jodie [Comer] and Sandra [Oh], how amazing they both are. And he talked about the humour you get through the costumes, which is what Phoebe is so clever at,” Gentle revealed.
Prince William has shared that he and Kate, 42, are fans of settling down to a good episode of Game of Thrones. The Royal couple even mentioned to actor Tom Wlaschiha, known for his role as Jaquan H’ghar in the series, that they have “watched every series”.
During a Radio One interview in 2017, William expressed their enthusiasm for the show, saying they were “big fans” and recommended, “You should definitely watch Game of Thrones, that’s worth watching.”
Away from the TV, Prince William is also known for his passion for music, a hobby he shares with his children, George and Charlotte. He revealed on Apple’s Time To Walk podcast in December 2023 that the siblings often squabble over which songs to play in the mornings.
This musical interest in the Wales household was highlighted when William, alongside Charlotte and George, made waves internationally after taking a selfie with global pop icon Taylor Swift. Celebrating his 42nd birthday, the future king was seen enjoying himself at Swift’s concert at Wembley Stadium with his kids.
