New details have come to light regarding Kate Middleton‘s cancer treatment.
After the Princess of Wales returned to the Royal Marsden Hospital earlier this week, one of the cancer patients she visited shared a new detail she learned about Middleton’s own chemotherapy experience.
Katherine Field, who got to chat with Middleton during her visit, revealed in a new interview with People that she and the princess spent time talking about cold caps, which are scalp-cooling hats worn during chemotherapy to reduce hair loss.
When Field, who wore a cold cap during her interaction with Middleton, asked Prince William‘s wife if she also used a cold cap during her treatments, she said Middleton told her she didn’t have to.
“She just said that she didn’t have to have it. For her to lose her hair, which is so iconic, would have been awful,” Field said. “Everyone loves her hair!”
Middleton, 43, has not shared any details regarding the type of cancer she battled last year—nor has she specified her exact treatment plan—but there are some chemotherapy drugs that are less likely to cause hair loss.
While reflecting on her conversation with Middleton, Field said, “It was just like talking to a friend about a really horrible time in life and how you find ways of getting through it. ‘Finding the new normal’ is what she said, which is absolutely true.”
Field added that overall, her experience with the princess was “magnificent.”
“She’s warm, and it just felt like sitting with a girlfriend having a chat, which is pretty hard to achieve in those circumstances,” Field added. “She is very special—to be able to connect with people so quickly and so empathetically.”
