Kate Middleton and Prince William are “just winging it” according to one royal expert.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, who recently celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary, have been an item for nearly two decades.
Kate reportedly caught William’s attention during a charity fashion show in 2002, strutting down the runway in a see-through lace outfit, reports Daily Express UK.
While many perceive their relationship as a fairytale romance, the journey to marital bliss wasn’t always smooth sailing. After an on-again, off-again relationship spanning five years, rumors began circulating in early 2007 that William might pop the question to his university sweetheart on her 25th birthday on January 9.
However, despite the speculation, William chose not to propose to his long-term girlfriend, instead opting to end the relationship. The future king reportedly felt “claustrophobic” within the relationship.
The split was widely publicized and discussed, unlike their previous break which allegedly occurred during their university years.
However, Mr Palmer observed that less than a week later, William began to miss Kate.
He said: “Prince William enjoyed a lonely trip to the cinema to cheer himself up after refusing to rule out an eventual reconciliation with dumped Kate Middleton.”
He added: “The future King, accompanied only by his police bodyguard, sneaked in to watch a late comedy film, Blades of Glory, after leaving his Army base at Covington, Dorset, for a quiet night out.”
“A friend revealed that the Prince was already exhibiting signs of missing his long-term girlfriend since their breakup following a heart-to-heart chat last week.”
It wasn’t long before William realized his error, and the couple is said to have reunited at a party on June 9, 2007, and never parted ways again.
Later, Kate talked about the break, saying she found the time apart from William to be beneficial in its own way.
In a 2010 interview with ITV News, follwing their engagement announcement, Kate said: “I think at the time I wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person, you find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realized.”
She added: “I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger.”
“I really valued that time for me as well, although I didn’t think it at the time!”
