She wore the new jewels during the royal family’s annual Christmas at Sandringham.
Despite undergoing what one royal expert described as “the toughest year of [her] life,” Kate Middleton still found time for one last fashionable moment in 2024—this time debuting a new set of earrings during the royal Christmas at Sandringham. Featuring a blue topaz half moon stone with a drop shield gemstone set in 14 carat gold, the jewels were a subtle, significant choice for the Princess, who paired the earrings with a green suit from Alexander McQueen.
Apart from the overall significance of her outfit, Middleton’s earrings actually held their own special sentiment. Designed by Robinson Pelham, they harkened back to the her and Prince William’s 2011 wedding, during which the princess wore another pair of earrings by Pelham, gifted to her by Michael and Carole Middleton.
The royal family Christmas was far from the first time that Middleton has used fashion to make a statement, of course. During the state visit of the Emir of Qatar, for example, the princess opted for a maroon coat that served as a subtle nod to Qatar’s flag; her fern earrings that she wore for a post-chemo outing aptly symbolized endurance.
Christmas at Sandringham, meanwhile, was an affair described by one royal expert as “chaotic.” Though the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were once again excluded from the festivities, King Charles had plenty of other guests to deal with, including Queen Camilla’s son Tom Parker Bowles and Prince William’s “secret” sister Laura Lopes.
As per tradition, King Charles hosted his annual pre-Christmas lunch on December 19; later that week, the royal family attended Christmas Day services at St. Mary Magdalene. The new blue topaz earrings were then spotted on Middleton as her family made their way to the church on Christmas morning.
