‘Kate’s admission today is encouraging sign for future of the Royal Family’

Through the lonely and dark days of cancer treatment, the Princess of Wales may have wondered whether there would be a time when she would be free of the disease.

Kate’s admission for the first time today that she is in remission is not only an encouraging sign for her full recovery but for the future of the monarchy. Over several frantic weeks last year, that future was very much in the balance following the shocking announcements that both the King and Princess of Wales had been diagnosed with cancer.

As a mother of three young children, and a future queen, it was imperative that Kate took herself out of the spotlight to focus on her recovery. Of course, it is gravely unfortunate that it is not the situation many of us would find ourselves in, given such a devastating diagnosis.

But in her own words she promised to stand shoulder to shoulder with those that are dealt such a hand. And in a climate where increasing questions are asked of the role of the monarchy and its place and position in modern day life, this is surely a role the princess can fulfil.

Her presence at the Royal Marsden is undoubtedly the start of the next stage of her journey.

Her warmth and compassion in sharing her own experiences is arguably unprecedented in royal circles. Kate has told how the effects of cancer made her question the things that truly matter in her life, whether that is her health, her family, or her position in history, one thing is for certain that she will use her experience to help others.
