If you’ve got Meghan Markle and Princess Kate reuniting on your 2025 manifestation board, I wouldn’t hold your breath. The sisters-in-law have been estranged for quite some time amid Prince Harry and Prince William’s royal rift and following Harry and Meghan stepping down as senior royals in 2020, and it doesn’t seem like any reconciliation will be happening in the near future. While tensions persist, the two are connected by one thing—and no, it isn’t the Wales brothers, but rather an unexpected pastime.
The Duchess of Sussex dropped the trailer for her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, yesterday on her newly reactivated Instagram. In addition to showcasing her tasty creations, beautiful garden, effortlessly chic style, and star-studded group of friends, Meghan revealed one of her niche hobbies: beekeeping.
One clip in the teaser shows the Suits alum in a full, crisp-white beekeeping suit scraping down honeycomb.
“Look at how much honey we have,” Meghan exclaims excitedly.
According to the official trademark filing, Meghan’s new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, will sell jars of honey, in addition to jams, dog biscuits, rosé, and other products.
It would appear beekeeping is a recreation enjoyed by many members of the royal clan, including Catherine, Princess of Wales. Kate reportedly keeps a beehive at her country home, Anmer Hall, on the Sandringham Estate. In June 2021, Kate brought a jar of her own honey to share with children during an event at the Natural History Museum. In 2023, she shared an Instagram photo of herself wearing a beige beekeeping suit and holding a tray of bees in honor of World Bee Day.
Kate has even paid homage to bees sartorially, such as with bee earrings during the official opening of the Glade of Light Memorial at Manchester Cathedral in May 2022.
“Bees are a vital part of our ecosystem and today is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the essential role bees and other pollinators play in keeping people and the planet healthy,” Kate wrote at the time.
Kings Charles and Queen Consort Camilla, too, are partial to beekeeping. The monarch keeps beehives at several royal properties, including Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, and his country retreat Highgrove House. In 2022, the bees produced more than 300 jars of honey to be used in palace kitchens, according to Harper’s Bazaar. Camilla also once sold honey that she harvested from her Wiltshire home, Ray Mill, at the London department store Fortnum & Mason.
