Royal fans were delighted when Kate Middleton and Prince William attended church in Sandringham with the Royal Family on Christmas Day. The Princess of Wales looked cheerful in a green outfit, while she also matched the Queen’s Camilla , who paired a green coat with a matching hat. But according to a body language expert, Kate Middleton needed support from her husband William during a “nervous moment.”
Scores of royal fans waited in the cold to greet Kate and the rest of the royal family. According to body language expert Judi James, Kate became nervous when she was separated from William outside the church. The Princess of Wales is said to have had a “non-smiling expression”, perhaps due to “tiredness or a nervous moment”, James told the Daily Mail . Luckily, Prince William was nearby and was able to show his continued support for his wife.
“She looked at William and they exchanged a look that was followed by a “grin,” meaning her expression responded to his grin with an immediate beaming smile of her own,” James told the outlet. The body language expert described Kate’s sweet reaction to seeing her husband as “perhaps the biggest body language signal of the current relationship.”
“His strongest moments of support here came from a distance,” James said. “Kate came out to greet fans looking genuinely happy and moved,” she continued. The Prince of Wales’ ability to support his wife, even from a distance, shows he continues to “embrace, cherish and protect” her after a tumultuous year.
James noted: “We’ve seen William stay away from Kate more, often standing on the other side of the line with the family and watching Kate being mobbed as they waited to hug her on Christmas Day.”
Royal fans gathered at Sandringham on Christmas Day, where they presented presents to Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte and Prince George. Meanwhile, those same fans also crowded to talk to Princess Kate, and she even joked that she had “lost” her family after losing sight of them in the crowds.
