Nicole Kidman said she was left with “real bruises” all over her body after filming a “disturbing” scene in HBO’s “Big Little Lies.”
While speaking to Zendaya during Variety’s Actors on Actors series, the two discussed how taxing it can be to play certain characters — and for Kidman, playing Celeste Wright was pretty traumatic.
“You’re putting yourself through trauma,” the Oscar winner said in the Friday interview, referencing her character who was a domestic abuse victim.
“That was disturbing to my body and my psyche, because I couldn’t tell what was real and what wasn’t,” the actress, 57, explained. “I would have real bruises all over my back and body.”
She also described feeling perturbed while filming her recently released flick, “Babygirl,” calling it “exhausting” and “emotionally disturbing.”
The “Moulin Rouge” star went on to explain that her brain could not decipher what was real and what was not.
“So I’ve done things where they clean my chakras and pray and get out the sage,” she admitted. “Honestly, I’ll take whatever so I can step into the next place free, and not scarred or damaged or wounded.”
Although Kidman acknowledges that her practice may sound like she is “bats–t crazy,” she noted that even a simple massage can help heal.
“I’m still learning not to sacrifice my body for the sake of the art, because part of me wants to,” she confessed. “Having to value who I am, it’s a journey.”
