Kate Middleton and Prince William both had a tough 2024, with the Princess of Wales going through cancer and completing chemotherapy, and the Prince of Wales supporting her emotionally while continuing to work and uphold the monarchy. The struggle, while unfortunate, has had a positive effect on their relationship, and now, the married pair’s communication is stronger than ever.

An insider told People that the royal spouses have a “more open” relationship with each other now and are willing to “talk about their relationship together.” The outlet noted that “the difficult period has brought a newfound depth to their relationship, revealing an unprecedented level of openness in their expressions of love for each other.”

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward explained that going through cancer as a family has likely made William more appreciative of Middleton, and has driven him to show his support and love for her in more public ways recently (see: his touching birthday post for Middleton’s recent birthday).

“William must feel so fortunate that Kate has come through this that he wants to tell the world about that love. It shows the intimacy of them sharing that journey together,” Seward told the outlet. “They are able to express themselves in a way they would never have done before.”

After going through cancer, Middleton remains laser focused on what truly matters to her, the People insider revealed—”For the princess, family—her husband and children—are more important than anything else…She has drawn a line under the last year, and she can move forward. The word ‘remission’ is such a positive one to use, and it just feels a veil has been lifted on their life of the last year, and that they can move forward with positivity and hope.”
