Following a challenging year that saw both King Charles and Princess Kate confronting cancer, Prince William has emerged as their “new rock,” a Royal biographer has revealed.
In an article for The Independent dated Dec.28, Dr. Tessa Dunlop highlighted the Prince of Wales, 42, as “a reincarnation of his late grandmother” and credited him with being a “steadfast anchor who changed it up with designer stubble,” directly referencing his newly-bearded appearance in late 2024.
Dunlop noted how “the nation fell in love with Princess Diana’s firstborn all over again” and mentioned, “Naysayers who doubted William’s mettle have been forced to rethink,” following the prince’s demonstrable adaptation to a taxing and emotion-laden year.
Prince William himself termed the previous year as “brutal”, openly recognising the struggles faced during his speech at the Earthshot Prize Awards in South Africa, November 2024: “It’s been dreadful,” he confessed. “It’s probably been the hardest year in my life.”
Notwithstanding the difficult season, hope shines for the coming year, with Princess Kate having rounded off her cancer treatment and clearly on the path to full recovery.
Similarly, King Charles has received clearance to resume regular duties, hinting at the possibility of more international journeys as part of his future engagements. , reports The Mirror.
The monarchy has seen a surge in public support, with Tessa noting last year: “Without doubt, the rebirth of the Waleses as the country’s number one couple has moved our monarchy into a new space,” she wrote. “These days they appear to be a double act, even when apart.”
This was particularly evident during Kate’s health struggles, as William provided unwavering support, ensuring she “Kate has not walked alone,” during that challenging time.
At the Earthshot Prize Awards, William, now heir to the throne, reflected on his future role and the weight of responsibility that comes with it. “It’s a tricky one,” he acknowledged.
“Do I like more responsibility? No. Do I like the freedom that I can build something like Earthshot? Then yes. And that’s the future for me.”
He emphasized, “It’s very important, with my role and my platform, that I’m doing something for good. That I’m helping people’s lives and I’m doing something that is genuinely meaningful. So, the Earthshot is a culmination, if you like, of all that put together.”
