Prince William sends warning to royals as he tackles ‘wasteful spending’

The Prince of Wales has reportedly taken steps to tackle “wasteful spending” and make sure the Royal Family is more sustainable, a source has claimed.

Prince William, who, much like his father, King Charles, has been passionate about the environment throughout his royal career, is said to have a renewed vision of how expenses within the Firm are monitored as he pushes for sustainability.

A royal source claimed to In Touch magazine: “He [William] wants expenses to be monitored closely, and any fat trimmed straight away.

“He doesn’t want there to be any sense that special perks are being handed out to the Royals.”

The source added that the future King has made the rest of the royals aware that they “need to get on board” with being as green as possible.

They claimed: “He’s all about the environment, so he’s pushing hard to be front and centre in that respect and has put out this edict that the rest of the family needs to get on board with being as green as possible.

“Private flights and that sort of thing are being frowned on.

“The days of wasteful spending and overconsumption are ending now that William is at the helm.”

The Prince of Wales has promoted several projects involving the environment and climate change, including his passion project, the Earthshot Prize.

In 2024, he attended the awards ceremony in South Africa, where he opened up about his vision for the monarchy.

William said: “I can only describe what I’m trying to do, and that’s I’m trying to do it differently and I’m trying to do it for my generation.

“And to give you more an understanding around it, I’m doing it with maybe a smaller R in the royal, if you like, that’s maybe a better way of saying it.”

He added: “It’s more about impact philanthropy, collaboration, convening, and helping people. And I’m also going to throw empathy in there as well, because I really care about what I do.

“It helps impacts people’s lives. And I think we could do with some more empathetic leadership around the world.”
