Prince William has made a pointed social media post about “making friends” just days after revelations emerged about his brother Harry’s lost friendships.
The Prince of Wales shared footage from his visit to The Carnoustie and Monifieth Men’s Shed on the official Wales Instagram account.
“Making friends. Learning new skills. Working on different projects together,” read the caption accompanying the video of William interacting with community members.
The timing follows comedian Jack Whitehall’s disclosure about Prince Harry’s changing friendships after meeting Meghan Markle.
Whitehall, 36, revealed he was “quite good friends with Harry back in the day” during an appearance on the “Jase & Lauren” podcast.
When asked directly if Harry “dropped his mates” after beginning his relationship with the former Suits actress, Whitehall responded with a simple “Yeah.”
The comedian described his friendship with Harry as being from the “Pre-Meghan” era, when the prince was what he called “a terror.”
Elaborating on his past friendship with Harry, Whitehall acknowledged having “a few nights out” with the royal.
The comedian clarified he was not present during Harry’s infamous Las Vegas strip billiards incident with showgirls.
“I mean, I wasn’t, I wouldn’t say, part of the inner circle, to go back to a Vegas analogy,” Whitehall said. “But no, I had a few nights out with him when he was quite fun.”
Whitehall noted that, like Harry, he too has “retired” from his bachelor days since becoming a father.
This isn’t the first time reports have emerged about Harry distancing himself from friends after meeting Meghan.
Grant Harrold, King Charles’ former butler, revealed last year that he knows “quite a few of Harry’s friends who don’t hear from him at all.”
Harrold highlighted the stark contrast between the brothers’ past and present relationship.
“They were both very sociable boys,” he said. “And that’s what’s so sad about it now, how they’ve gone from best of friends to nonexistent really.”
The former royal butler recalled their close bond in earlier years.
“They were best friends, and they had the same friends, too. You’d see them in the pubs together,” he added. “It was a great time for them.”
