Prince William is engaging in a more “subtle battle” to protect his young family from media intrusion, a royal expert has claimed.
While Prince Harry has long since adopted a more robust approach when it comes to his beliefs on press intrusion, the i’s royal correspondent Richard Palmer, has claimed that his brother, William, is taking a more ‘subtle’ approach when it comes to how he sees the media’s involvement in the life of his immediate family.
William reportedly shares some the same concerns as his younger brother when it comes to the role of the media in his family’s life, but his approach is somewhat different. According to the royal expert, the Prince of Wales staff at Kensington Palace “have built strong relationships with editors and specialist reporters, and often use softer negotiating skills, understandings or, if necessary, legal warnings to try to keep intrusive stories out of the mainstream media.”
While the future King is reportedly engaged in a ‘subtle battle’ over the privacy of his young family, he has not been a stranger to sharing anecdotes from his home life recently.
Speaking during a visit to Cape Town, South Africa last year, he recalled how Charlotte had not taken well to his new beard, he said: “Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears the first time I grew a beard, so I had to shave it off. And then I grew it back. I thought, hang on a second and I convinced her it was going to be okay.”
However, the news of Williams’ supposed ‘subtle approach’ to how he engages with the media comes amid a turbulent time for his family. The last year has seen them under the spotlight after both King Charles and the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton announced that they were suffering with cancer.
It is almost a year to the day that Kensington Palace delivered the shocking news that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer after having undergone a procedure for an enlarged prostate. Meanwhile, it was little over a month later that the spotlight was back on the royals after Kate delivered a sobering video address to the nation to say that she too had been diagnosed with cancer following scheduled abdominal surgery.
