Savannah Guthrie says she threw away Hoda Kotb’s “s–t” after she departed the “Today” show last week.
Guthrie recalled finding the various beauty products and items left behind by her former co-anchor while appearing on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” with Craig Melvin Wednesday.
“It’s a new era. It’s the Craig era. And we go in and we sit on the set and there are these trays,” she joked, explaining the organizing trays were filled with Kotb’s belongings.
“It was, like, one contact [lense] and, like, expired bean dip and, like, belly button lint,” Guthrie, 53, joked. “So we just threw it right out.”
Fallon even played a video Guthrie recorded for Kotb, 60, as she discarded the items.
“Guess you didn’t want any of this s–t,” the journalist said in the video before dumping the contents of a tray into the trash.
Speaking further about her discovery, Guthrie told Fallon, “Look at the tray … it had rust and barnacles on it. I mean, it was disgusting!”
Of course, she meant no harm with the story and was laughing the entire time she was sharing it.
Guthrie and Kotb began anchoring “Today” together in 2017 after the latter replaced Matt Laur, who was fired over sexual harassment allegations.
Guthrie and Kotb not only formed a trusted professional relationship but a deep friendship over the years while serving as the faces of NBC’s morning broadcast.
In October 2023, Guthrie told Us Weekly she was “so sad” to see Kotb leave but “happy for her as her friend” to see her move onto the next phase of her life.
Ahead of her final day on “Today,” Kotb revealed exclusively to Page Six that she would stay with NBC by handling exclusive interviews and covering the 2026 Winter Olympics and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Plus, she said she will contribute to “Today” every four to six weeks and stop by Jenna Bush Hager’s new show, “Today With Jenna & Friends,” every so often.
