After tying with Drake on 39 awards, Taylor surpassed the rap superstar with a total of 49 new BBMAs, while Drake won three more awards that night for Best Rap Artist, Best Male Rap Artist and Best Rap Album for ‘For All the Dogs’.
Taylor has thanked her fans and said her record-breaking win was “the best early birthday present” as the ‘Cruel Summer’ hitmaker celebrates her 35th birthday on Friday (13.12.24).
In a video message, Taylor said: “Thank you Billboard Awards. Thank you fans, because Billboard is counting your numbers.
“They count what you listen to, the albums you’re passionate about, so I count these awards like fan-voted awards because you’re the ones who care about our albums and come see us perform.”
She continued: “Everything that happened with The Eras Tour and The Tortured Poets Department, I just want to say thank you. It means so much to me that you guys accept what I do, you know? And that you care so much about my music.
“This is the best early birthday present I could have given you. Thank you so much, I love it. It’s exactly what I wanted.”
The ceremony was hosted by actress and comedian Michelle Buteau and featured performances by Megan Moroney, Jelly Roll and Shaboozey.
