The pop star who sold the most concert tickets at gigs across Australia in 2024 has been revealed.
Many Aussie music fans will be shocked to learn that it’s not Taylor Swift, who brought her Eras tour Down Under earlier this year.
In fact, the most concert sales went to Pink, who brought her Summer Carnival world tour to Australian shores in February.
Pink, real name Alecia Moore, sold out 20 stadiums actress the country, shifting over one million ticket sales and winning the box office victory.
The singer is well known for having a dedicated Australian fanbase and a long, mutual love affair with the country.
Touring promoter Live Nation said Pink’s dates were ‘the most performed by any artist in Australia on a single tour’.
‘There is a palpable mutual love affair between the Australasian audience that love seeing her perform live, and an artist who clearly loves being here. Congratulations, Alecia, on yet another stunning record-breaking tour,’ Live Nation Australasia chairman Michael Coppel told the Herald Sun.
Taylor Swift and Coldplay also put in massive efforts, with Swift moving around 600,000 tickets at seven gigs, while Coldplay brought in around 338,000.
Pink was reportedly furious with the amount of press Swift was given when both pop stars were touring Australia earlier this year.
Aussie singer Sam Fischer claimed during an interview on Nova’s Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel earlier this year Pink was ‘pi**ed off’ by the lack of media coverage she had while she was in the country.
‘Did you think now everyone’s money is going into like very, very few piles now,’ host Tim Blackwell said.
Sam responded: ‘Just Taylor Swift… but they need the cash I get it!’
Tim then admitted he ‘felt sorry’ for Pink being in Australia the same time as Taylor.
‘Pink is out here riding her bike around the Opera House saying, “I’m here too!”,’ he added.
‘It’s kind of funny everyone’s talking about Beyonce and Taylor doing the stadium shows but Pink’s also out here selling them all out.’
‘I have a friend who’s Pink’s background singer and my friend Danny said she’s really just pi**ed off no one’s talking about the fact that she’s also selling out stadiums.’
Pink arrived in Australia in February and performed at Sydney’s Accor Stadium before heading to Brisbane and Townsville.
After the massive success of her tour, the American singer thanked her fans for 20 years of support.
She told how her 2024 tour broke several Australian records, including ticket sales becoming the biggest for any tour by a female artist in the country.
Meanwhile, more than 600,000 Swifties attended the Australian leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in February.
A record-breaking 96,000 fans attended each of her three nights in Melbourne and a further 83,000 Swifties flocked to each of her four shows in Sydney.
It comes after fans shared their anger after learning that scores of tickets were given away to the pop star’s Sydney concerts for free.
The tickets – many for prime seats – were given out at the Accor stadium venue minutes before, and even during the show, to hopeful fans waiting outside.
Some were given away by Taylor Nation, a fan group known for giving out free concert tickets to Swifties who missed out.
Others are believed to have been given away by venue staff and even members of the pop’s star’s entourage.
