While members of the Royal Family travel a lot and have the ability to fly to most destinations around the world, it seems that sometimes there is no place like home when choosing where to spend a few days.

Prince William is reportedly hoping to take Duchess Kate on a romantic getaway next year after a “devastating” year for his wife after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Although Kate, 42, has not been abroad this year, the fact that she has completed chemotherapy and is recovering well means a short break for the couple could be on the cards in the next few months.

While the Prince of Wales has hinted that overseas royal tours could be on the cards next year, when it comes to private trips, the future king is said to be eyeing a trip to the Isles of Scilly, just off the coast of Cornwall.

An insider told Bella magazine that William “wants to make memories with Kate so he’s planning a romantic getaway to the Isles of Scilly – one of their favourite places to have some quiet time together”.

In addition to the advantage of being not too far from the UK mainland, the prince also has his own holiday home on the largest island in St Mary called Tamarisk House.

Owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, this private home could be a great place for parents to spend time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, with the island famous for its deserted white sand beaches and dramatic rocky coves.

St Mary’s is also known for its stunning natural setting, something that Duchess Kate has said was important to her over the past year as she underwent treatment following her cancer diagnosis.

According to Visit Isles of Scilly , St Mary’s has the advantage of both beautiful coastline and countryside, with many archaeological sites, beautiful walks and nature trails to explore.

The island, which covers more than six square miles, also has plenty of restaurants and pubs, providing the perfect opportunity for the couple to spend some time enjoying a more normal life than their day-to-day lives.

Alternatively, if the couple are into sports – something they are both known for being competitive about – they can head to the sailing centre where they can take part in windsurfing, sailing, power-boating and kayaking. Boat trips are also available for the couple to enjoy, something they are said to have done when they visited nearby Tresco Island in 2020 with their three children.

At the time, a tourist who spotted the Welsh family told the Sun : “We hardly took any notice at first as they seemed like a normal family on holiday and wanted to keep their distance from everyone. The place they were staying was quite modest and certainly not luxurious.”

It is not yet known exactly when William plans to take his wife with him, or whether George, Charlotte and Louis will accompany them.
